Fort Frances town council will consider Monday whether to help the Salvation Army offset its cost of using the East End Hall.
The agency has used the hall as a staging point for its Christmas Hamper program since 2023.
It paid a reduced rate but informed that the full rate would be charged for its use this December.
The proposed bill came to $3,467.40, an increase of more than $1,000, prompting the Salvation Army to write council and ask for a reduction or to waive the fee.
Administration is now proposing that council make a donation equal to the amount based on a reduced rental fee.
It would amount to $2,277 for 20 days of usage.
In a report to council, administration states, “With the number of individuals requiring assistance in our district continuing to grow, this would be a great way to support the Salvation Army and their efforts for the Christmas season.”
If approved, funding would come from a reserve fund set up for community and public relations.
