The College of Nurses of Ontario is holding a disciplinary hearing for a former Fort Frances nurse.
Lindsay Coyle is scheduled to appear before the organization that governs nurses in Ontario on personal misconduct allegations.
A notice of the hearing indicates the allegations stem from an incident at La Verendrye General Hospital in January 2014.
In a notice of the hearing, the College alleges Coyle “altered the Medication Administration Record for Patient A with respect to morphine dosage without a physician’s order, which caused Patient A to be administered an increased dosage of morphine and which caused Patient A’s death.”
Coyle was convicted in 2022 on a charge of criminal negligence causing death, related to the death of 76-year-old Hermina Fletcher, a patient at the hospital in 2015.
During the court hearing, Coyle admitted to stealing medication for personal use.
She was sentenced to two years in jail in January 2024 and later granted day parole in September 2024.
Coyle had her nursing licence suspended in 2015 before voluntarily surrendering it several months later.
The College of Nurses’ hearing will take place on August 21st.
Its Discipline Committee will hear the allegations with the power to issue orders that include revoking a member’s registration certificate, issuing fines of up to $35,000 and requiring payment of the College’s legal costs and related expenses.
