Former Area MP Dies

Funeral services for a long-time federal politician from the Fort Frances area are being held today in Ottawa.

John Reid passed away last Thursday in Ottawa, where he was living, after battling bile duct cancer.

He was 85.

He served as MP for the then Kenora-Rainy River Riding for the Liberal party from 1965 until his defeat in 1984.

He later became a consultant, working with the United Nations before his appointment in 1998 as Information Commissioner of Canada until 2005.
