Food banks in Ontario fed more than 500 thousand people this past year.
Feed Ontario released its annual report and says there were more than three million visits.
Executive director Carolyn Stewart says most of the people who used food banks were single and on some sort of social assistance.
“What this shows is that not only are more people visiting but that they are visiting with more frequency,” claims Stewart. “In addition to that, the two largest users of food banks are single-person households and children. What we also saw (was an) unprecedented number of employed people accessing our services.”
Stewart says people on Ontario Disability Support were also bigger users this past year.
