Feds won’t appeal Indigenous policing ruling

The First Nations Chiefs of Police Association says welcomes the decision by Public Safety Canada not to appeal a recent court ruling about funding three Indigenous police services in Ontario.

Public Safety Minister Marco Mendocino made the announcement yesterday while meeting yesterday in Alberta.

The Treaty #3 Police, the UCCM Anishinaabe Police and the Anishinabek Police Services took the government to court after their funding was suspended at the end of March.

The courts ordered the federal government to provide funding for the next 12 months.
