Koochiching County now has access to federal assistance as it recovers from the flooding.
U.S. President Joe Biden has declared the county and fourteen others in Minnesota federal disaster areas.
That makes them eligible for federal aid.
It will complement any state and local assistance available.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had requested federal support on behalf of counties and tribal bands that were hit with severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding earlier this year.
Lake of the Woods and St. Louis Counties have also been named in the same declaration.
The federal funding will be available on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by severe storms and high waters.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures in all areas within the state.
Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are expected to be in the county next week to assess the damages.
