Ontario Enters The Third Wave

Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health is now confirming we are into a third wave of the COVD-19 pandemic.

Dr. David Williams says what effect it will have is still uncertain.

“Question is what type of wave will it be. Is it an undulating wave? is it a rapidly rising breaking wave, to use the analogy? Is it going to look like wave two? We don’t know right now,” says Dr. Williams.

Dr. Williams says the presence of the new variants of the virus is driving the third wave. However, case numbers aren’t as high as they were in the second wave.

“Three weeks ago, we were around the thousand to 1100 mark average. Then a week ago we are at 12 to 13 thousand. This week we’re at 13 to 14 or 15-thousand. Remember, at the peak of the second wave, we are up at 3000. We actually touched over 4,000,” says Dr. Williams.

Dr. Williams does believe the available vaccines are showing to be effective on the new variants.

He adds it’s also important to continue following the public health requirements as the variants are bound to show up anywhere.
