Teachers Ramp Up Job Action

Teachers are taking their dispute with the government to the next level today.

Public elementary teachers are expanding on their job action by not supervising extra-curricular activities unless they are scheduled within regular school hours and not participating in field trips.

They won’t be planning or taking part in assemblies other than to supervise students either.

Teachers won’t be at work until 30 minutes prior to the start of the day, leaving within 15 minutes after the final bell.

The Elementary Teachers Federation is also giving the government until Friday to strike a deal or it will begin a series of rotating strikes next Monday.

Meantime, Catholic teachers also initiating job action of their own to back demands for a new contract.

Members of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association are stepping away from certain administrative duties.

This includes not participating in any EQAO-related activities and not attending staff or department meetings.

It’s the first job action of any kind for Catholic teachers since being in a legal strike position late last month.
