Electricity Rate Remains In Place

The Ontario government is maintaining the current electricity rates for a little while longer.

Energy Minister Greg Rickford says rates for all hours of the day will stay at the off-peak rate of 8.5 cents per kilowatt-hour until February 9. That coincides with the scheduled end of the provincewide lockdown.

The lower rate is applied to Time-Of-Use and tiered customers.

It was put in place on January 1 to ease the financial burden for people having to stay home during the lockdown and likely increasing their electricity used during the daytime.

Rickford reminds those with overdue electricity and natural gas bills, support through the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program is still available.

A residential customer can receive up to $750, while small businesses and charities can receive up to $1,500 for each bill.
