Electricity Rate Increase Proposed For I. Falls Residents

International Falls residents could be paying more for electricity in the new year.

Minnesota Power is asking for an 18 per cent hike to its operating revenue.

It has filed the request to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to consider.

For the average residential customer, it would mean an increase of about 15 dollars per month on their electricity bills.

Small businesses would pay about 55 dollars per month more.

Minnesota Power says the increase is necessary to support sustainable energy efforts. It says it also reflects changes in customers’ demands for electricity.
