Dumont first Franco-Canadian Lieutenant-Governor

Ontario will have a new Lieutenant-Governor.

Edith Dumont has been appointed by the prime minister for the ceremonial role.

Dumont replaces Elizabeth Dowdeswell, who has served in that role since 2014.

Dumont is listed as an educator and community advocate and is the first French-Canadian Lieutenant Governor in Ontario.

Dowdeswell will continue on as Lieutenant-Governor until the swearing in of Dumont.

No date has been set.
