COVID-19 Vaccine Comes To NWO

COVID-19 vaccination in the region has begun, starting with a Thunder Bay long-term care home worker.

Personal Support Worker Sean Bolton works at Hogarth Riverview Manor, and received his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine this morning.

Bolton says as a long-time PSW, he has always tried to lead by example.

“To be the first person to get it was actually a great honour and pride,” Bolton says, adding he wants to reassure others who may be uneasy about getting immunized.

He says while some people are always going to be skeptical about the vaccine, he trusts the science behind it.

“The health of the residents is vital, as well as their well-being and [the well-being of] my coworkers. All it takes is one person, and you’ve seen how it spread at Roseview, like wildfire. We want to put a stop to this, and hopefully we don’t get any more outbreaks,” he says.

Hospital officials say the vaccine rollout is complex, and they are still figuring out many of the details.

The process will start with long-term care home workers and other healthcare workers who want to get immunized.
