COVID-19 Spreading In Rainy River District

The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting six new positive COVID-19 cases in the Rainy River region.

One of the cases is associated with an outbreak at Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances.

Riverside Health Care says it’s a resident at the home who has contracted the virus.

That’s led to increased testing with all residents now to be tested twice over the next two weeks.

Staff are already tested every seven days.

As well, visitations are now restricted with only palliative visitors being allowed.

Health officials stress there continues to be an increase in cases in the District of Rainy River and the outbreak is no longer contained to the community of Rainy River.

They recommend that everyone assume COVID-19 is in their community and practise preventive measures like physical distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, good hand hygiene, and not touching their face.

Anyone who has symptoms, or who has been in contact with a positive case, should self-isolate and get tested.
