Council To Vote On Proposed Plastic Shopping Bag Ban

A proposed ban on plastic shopping bags comes to town council for a vote tonight.

Support would pave the way for a more official by-law to come forward at a future meeting.

It’s proposed the ban would take effect next year though no penalties would be issued until 2022, giving time for businesses and consumers time to adjust.

The proposed by-law would also do away with plastic straws and styrofoam food containers.
