Council Committee Tackles New Water And Sewer Rates

Another annual increase is proposed to water and sewer rates in Fort Frances.

The town’s Operations and Facilities Committee spent considerable time this week discussing potential changes before agreeing to a 2.7 per cent increase for all users except those in the commercial sector. It’s proposed a 2 per cent hike be applied to them starting January 1st.

Higher rates were proposed, but Councillor John McTaggart says local businesses can’t take it right now.

If approved by council, the increase would mean raised $231-thousand dollars less than this year for the system.
