The PC government spent nearly a quarter of a billion dollars to end hundreds of green energy contracts.
NDP says the expense was identified in the Public Accounts for the Ministry of Energy as “other transactions.”
Critic Peter Taubans says it eerily similar to the gas-plant scandal.
” The similarities are striking. We saw what the Liberal government did to hydro bills, and now Premier Ford is doing the same thing at the same time because he’s letting hydro prices increase,” says Taubans
Associate Energy Minister Bill Walker says they made it clear Ontario didn’t need the extra power.
“We have an adequate supply of power. We knew that from day one. They knew that from day one, and they continued to impose these on unwilling hosts. At the end of the day, we knew that we didn’t need this power. It was intermittent power at best and, again, we did not need it,” says Walker.
Walker also places blame on the former Liberal government for creating the mess in the first place.
