BMI Group proposal nominated for a Brownie

BMI Group’s Wellness Precinct, planned for the former Resolute Forest Products mill in Fort Frances, is up for an award.

It is a nominee for a Brownie presented by the Canadian Brownfields Network and Actual Media.

The awards recognize the redevelopment of under-utilized, undeveloped or contaminated sites.

BMI is converting a former mill warehouse to house various healthcare services and senior housing.

The facility would be connected to LaVerendrye General Hospital.

It attracted its first tenant in September with Giishkaandago’ikwe Health Services relocating its Home and Community Care program to the site.

BMI’s project is one of four that are nominated in the category of REFOCUS: Vision of Alternative Benefits to Brownfield Remediation

The award winners are to be announced in November.
