7 City Councillors in northwestern Ontario are demanding Lynn Beyak be removed from the Senate.
The group of young municipal representatives in the region says Beyak’s comments about the residential school system and Canada’s Indigenous population “sow shame in our region.”
The seven councilors include Doug Judson of Fort Frances and Andrew Nisley from Sioux-Narrows Nestor Falls.
They add “it is simply no longer acceptable for Senator Beyak to squander her office and its resources to cast aspersions on Indigenous people, obscure the reality of racism and those who experience it, and bring disrepute to our region.”
