A new telecommunications tower is being proposed for downtown Fort Frances.
Bell is looking to erect a 35-foot tower behind its building on Church Street.
Project manager Adam Fulford says it will replace one located on mill property slated to come down.
“This tower is going to maintain the existing LTE and 4G network. It’s quite essential in order to do so in this given area, and also to allow for future expansion of network equipment and improvement of Bell’s wireless network,” says Fulford.
Fulford says the next step will be gathering public comment before planning for eventual construction.
It includes direct notification to any resident and business living in the immediate area.
“Following that 30 day period, provided that all of comments and considerations have been brought forward and addressed in accordance with the regulatory framework, we will be bringing forward a request for concurrence and an update to Council as well.”
Fulford says the tower would be near one owned by TbayTel, but it won’t interfere with its signal.
