The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting a new COVID-19 case in the Rainy River District.
There are now 36 active cases.
Twenty-two are in the Kenora area with 14 in the Rainy River region.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says multiple communities are impacted, and people need to be aware of the increased risks and follow public health rules.
The Health Unit sits at 206 confirmed and probable cases since March.
Dr. Kit Young Hoon is urging everyone to monitor for symptoms.
“It is very important that individuals with symptoms get tested as soon as they can. The earlier we get positive results, the faster household and close contacts can go into self-isolation. Timeliness is very important because cases are infectious for 48 hours before their symptoms start. Therefore, if a case takes a long time to get tested, then we may miss that window of opportunity to get close contacts isolated and ensure that they do not infect others.”
She fully supports the extension of the regional lockdown, noting case numbers continue to rise.
“I don’t think we’ve seen the full effect of what has occurred over the Christmas season. The interactions during the Christmas season is likely still yet to show up in our numbers.”
There have been 23 new cases over the past three days.
