Speed sensor signs could find a spot in downtown Fort Frances.
The signs that show a vehicle’s speed are now in place on King’s Highway and Highway 11 at the east end of Fort Frances.
The signs also gather various traffic data.
The town’s Traffic Safety Advisory Committee is recommending their use on Scott Street to gather traffic data in determining if a reduction in the speed limit is necessary.
The committee is reacting to a request by the Downtown Business Improvement Association made last year about the speeds on Scott.
The BIA wrote the town expressing concern with the number of reported near misses between pedestrians and vehicles.
The speed limit is currently posted at 50 kilometres an hour.
The advisory committee suggests the speed signs be posted in the 100 block of Scott near Central Avenue and at the 900 block near the former Shevlin woodyard for six months.
The committee also recommends a review of the timing of the traffic lights and checking with OPP on enforcement.
The recommendations will go to the Operations and Facilities Executive Committee for further discussions before being passed onto council.
