Gymnastics Club Enjoying Strong Start To First Year

A strong first year for the Rainy Lake Gymnastics Academy.

It began in September and has attracted over 250 young athletes in a variety of ages.

One of the founders and coaches Stephanie Mann says they’re just thrilled by the response.

“It’s been really good. The classes are full and we are moving all the time. It is awesome to have the athletes so happy to be here and participate in their classes,” says Mann.

Mann says they’ve also had many others wanting to join and may hold another registration in December for classes that aren’t quite filled.

The young people currently enrolled range in age from 2 to 15. Mann says they began with starting everyone at the same level.

“We sort of started everybody off on the same plane. Can you do this and some sort of assessed everyone and then made lesson plans from there.”

But unlike other sports, the young athletes train without the presence of their parents watching from the sidelines.

“We need the kids to be focused and waving to mom and dad isn’t really that safe when we’re kind of doing that level of support. So it’s easier for them, it’s safer for us.”

Mann says they do give parents a chance to watch once a week to view their children’s progress.
