Borderland Pride is looking for some assurances from the Prime Minister.
It’s one of a number of Pride organizations asking Justin Trudeau to maintain a Special Advisor on LGBTQ2 issues.
The MP who was responsible was not re-elected.
Co-chair of Borderland Pride Doug Judson says that role was beneficial.
“We’re reaching out to make sure that the government knows that that role was vitally important to our ability to be heard by the governments and to make sure that their policies reflected on the needs of LGBTQ2 people and their families,” says Judson.
Judson says the Advisor helpful in addressing a number of issues and making funding available to Pride groups, including Borderland Pride.
“There’s been new tranches of funding that’s been made available for LGBTQ2 festivals such as pride festivals. Borderland Pride actually received funding under the previous government for our last Pride festival through Heritage Canada.”
