The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is putting out the call for help to find the person responsible for shooting and abandoning a bull and a cow moose east of Sioux Lookout.
On October 22 Conservation Officers responded to a tip from a hunter that a cow moose carcass was found at the edge of a forest cutover off Botsford Road, which is accessed by Highway 642.
An investigation determined the badly decomposed animal was shot one to two weeks prior.
Officers were unable to determine if any of the meat had been salvaged before it was left behind. A bullet was recovered from the carcass and a casing was located on a nearby road.
Three days later another tip was received of a bull moose carcass found in a similar location off of Star Creek Road, also accessed off Highway 642.
The Ministry believes the animal was also shot one to two weeks prior and from at nearby roadway.
It was badly decomposed and scavenged by wildlife so officers weren’t able to determine if any of the meat had been salvaged before it was abandoned.
A bullet was also recovered from the carcass.
