Atikokan went one for two in the NorWOSSA finals in Kenora Thursday afternoon.
The lone gold medal came from the Voyageurs senior girls basketball team which beat the host Thomas Aquinas Saints 38-32.
Coach Pam Bujold says they put it all on the line.
“We knew we had to come into this game fighting hard,” says Bujold.
“We almost didn’t make the play-offs. So after (Wednesday’s) semi-final, we only won by three. So we knew we had to come out playing strong…aggressive.”
For the Voyageurs, this was their first title in 21 years.
Atikokan will now host the NWOSSA finals next week.
In the meantime, the Atikokan senior boys volleyball team forced a fifth a deciding set against Thomas Aquinas, but were edged three sets to two in the gold medal game.
