Scams Still Reported In Rainy River District

Continued complaints about scams using the Canada Revenue Agency or Service Canada as a guise.

Many people across the Rainy River district are reporting to OPP having received phone calls from someone claiming to be with Canada Revenue Agency suggesting they owe money and immediate payment is necessary.

A separate scam from people disguised as Service Canada representatives claims fraudulent use of your Social Insurance Number.

OPP says there are times the real agencies will contact you by telephone but will never demand payment with prepaid credit cards, gift cards or e-transfers or make threats of sending the police and arresting you.

If you do receive such calls you are advised to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
