NDP Speaks Out Against Mining Project

The NDP candidate for Thunder Bay-Rainy River is adding her voice to those concerned about a mining project in northeastern Minnesota.

Opponents say the Twin Metals sulfide-ore copper mine near Ely has the potential of causing irreparable damage to the waters within the Rainy Lake watershed.

Yuk-Sem Won says the prospect of pollution here is a serious issue that should not be ignored.

She also accuses the Trudeau government of being silent on the issue.

The head of a group fighting the project told our newsroom last month the Canadian government did voice its concern about the impact on border waters last December but wasn’t aware if the US government had responded.
