The provincial government will provide Ontario’s cities and town with transitional funding next year as it asks municipalities to pay more for public health and child care services.
Premier Doug Ford made the announcement in Ottawa at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference.
“To help our municipal partners pursue greater fiscal sustainability and protect the future of public services. So you can continue to deliver important services people rely on every day, including public health and child care,” says Ford.
Ford also announced that there will be no changes to the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund, set up to help cities and towns offset the burden of handling provincial services like social services and child care.
“So that’s step one – giving our municipal partners more flexibility with their budgets, and ensuring you can deliver value for the taxpayers because there is only one taxpayer.”
