The Trudeau government is directing $22.2 million over three years to expand its national strategy to protect children from sexual exploitation on the Internet.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says most of that money, $15.25 million, will go to police forces that deal with the problem of child pornography “to enhance their local capacities.”
The federal public safety minister adds the rest of the money will go to the Internet service providers and towards research into the problem.
He says they “need to keep working with the Internet companies to get them to improve their technology so they’re better able to recognize the material that needs to be removed.”
Goodale adds, “dealing with these horrible threats to children and the abuse of children is something where we can never relax because technology will never relax.”
