Keewaywin Forest Fire Grows

Forest fire crews are battling a nearly-72,000 hectare blaze just eight kilometres south of Keewaywin.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says they continue to place sprinklers around the community, which has been evacuated.

The fire has grown since the last update from fire officials, when it measured around 54,000 hectares.

Meanwhile, another fire near the community has also increased in size, with Red Lake Fire 39 now at 18,000 hectares just seven kilometres southwest of Keewaywin.

The MNRF says the forest fire hazard in the region is high to extreme, except for a small band of moderate hazard running from the southwest to the northeast.
