A Long Time Coming For Canadian Sports Fans

I can still remember when Toronto was granted an NBA franchise.

Jurassic Park was a huge movie that inspired a name long before it was a place and then a movement across a country, including last night in Rainy Lake Square, maybe you were there taking in the moment with us.

From from Mighty Mouse to Air Canada to CB4 to Double D….OK I made that last nickname up.

In those lean years a moment like this seemed like it would never be possible. I truly believe the refs and the league would prefer not to see a championship north of the border, but it happened anyway.

I was taught long ago by my GTA peers that once you pick a team you have to stick with it. No bandwagon jumping aloud. So I GUESS I’m a Bulls fan, because I was enthralled with MJ and company in their heyday. However, I have not been inspired to watch the NBA in years. This run has reminded me just how much I love the game.

I have been incredibly lucky to watch the Raptors in action live over the years. Family and friends who are like family have provided me with the chance to see our hometown team play against Michael and Lebron. I played in a “Raptorball” league as a teen and some how I even won a free throw contest once.

I know that I can’t call myself a TRUE Raptors fan, because it’s not allowed, but I am so incredibly happy for all of the ride or die fans who have been patient and ridden the highs and lows all the way to this moment.
