Fort Frances Cadets Participating In D-Day Anniversary

The 75th anniversary of D-Day is be recognized in Normandy, France.

A group presenting the 908 Rainy Lake Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron in Fort Frances area are taking part.

Lieutenant Kirsty Sinclair says five cadets and three adults are also visiting Amsterdam and Vimy Ridge.

“It’s going to be incredible to be able to walk along the beaches and see those places that our young people went to fight for our freedom. I can’t imagine what it’ll be like,” says Sinclair.

Warrant Officer, 2nd Class, Courtney Sinclair is Cadets who’ve made the trip.

“I think this will be a really good opportunity for myself and the other Cadets who are going to really learn about what happened,” says Sinclair.

Three cadets will also participate in a walk along Juno beach to represent the 359 Canadians who died on June 6, 1944. The younger Sinclair will be among them.

“Just the fact that I get to represent these men. I think it’s going to be an eye opening experience.”

The Air Cadets had been preparing for the trip for nearly two years.

A fundraising campaign assisted covering the Cadet’s travel costs.

The group left Fort Frances last week and are expected back next week.
