More Ontario FireRangers Working Out Of Province

More Ontario forest firefighters have been deployed elsewhere in Canada.

More than 50 FireRangers and support staff have been sent to the Yukon to assist with fires in that territory.

Another support staff employee is assisting the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre in Winnipeg while another is in Northwest Territories.

There are also now 230 FireRangers and support staff in Alberta.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says it still has enough staff to deal with any fires back home.

Meantime, forest fire activity picked up a bit in northwestern Ontario over the weekend.

There were six new forest fires across the region as of late yesterday.

Two were in the Dryden area, two near Kenora and one each in the Sioux Lookout and Red Lake regions.

Four are still active but are small in size.

The forest fire hazard has now reached high for the southern parts of northwestern Ontario, moderate in the Far North.
