Blades, Bidding & Birthdays

April 9 to 15 is one of those weeks where the calendar quietly gets fun, and you can choose your own pace, from a cozy afternoon birthday get-together to a full-on spring celebration and a classic local ice show.

If you’re in Atikokan, Thursday is your excuse to drop in, say hello, and help make someone’s day. April Birthday Celebrations is set up as a warm, community-style hangout where the whole point is good company and a little birthday cheer without any fuss. Thursday, April 9, 1PM, Pioneer Club Atikokan.

Over in Rainy River, the Ice Plant Fundraiser Online Auction wraps up on Thursday, April 9, which means it’s prime time for last-minute bidding and that satisfying feeling of supporting something the whole community uses. Even if you’re just browsing, it’s a great way to jump in and help keep the momentum going.

Fort Frances has a weekend that feels like a proper seasonal shift. Spring Gathering brings the energy of a community get-together where you can wander between jigging, crafts, games, and Michif Bingo, then settle in for dinner and the kind of conversation that tends to happen when everyone’s having a good time. Saturday, April 11, 1PM – 8PM, Sunset Country Métis Hall.

Then, to cap off the week, Border Skating Club presents Timeless is the perfect outing, with an ice show that mixes athletic skill, big music moments, and that hometown pride you can feel in the crowd. It’s the kind of event where you’ll leave talking about your favourite number and someone’s amazing spin. Sunday, April 12, 2PM – 3PM, Memorial Sports Centre.
