Internet upgrades may interrupt service in Rainy River area

Residents in the west end of the Rainy River area may experience disruption to their Internet service over the coming weeks.

TbayTel has announced that it will be performing scheduled 5G upgrades to several areas in the region, beginning next week.

Burditt Lake and New Gold Mine will be undergoing 5G upgrades from Oct. 13 to Oct. 24, while Morson, Dearlock and Berglund will see new 5G installations during the week of Nov. 17 to Nov. 24.

During the November maintenance period, Tbaytel says all five locations will undergo shutdowns of its 3G HSPA/Fixed Wireless Internet service networks for removal.

In a release, Tbaytel says crews will be working Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00am-4:00pm during the upgrades and customers may experience degraded service and intermittent outages of voice, text and data service.

Emergency 911 services will remain operational.

Once the upgrade has been completed, customers using devices with LTE and VoLTE capabilities should not experience any service disruptions. However, customers with older devices that do not support VoLTE calling will lose voice service in the Morson, Berglund, Dearlock, Burditt Lake and New Gold Mine areas.

Customers are encouraged to visit tbaytel.net/3Gshutdown to find out if they have a VoLTE capable device or find more information about the upgrade.

People can also visit Tbaytel’s authorized dealer, Sight & Sound Audio Video Unlimited or call a representative at Tbaytel Customer Care.

To minimize disruption, customers are advised to enable Wi-Fi calling if supported on their devices ahead of the upgrade work.
