Iowa man rescued after cutting leg in remote Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area

An Iowa man is recovering after being injured in the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area, along the Ontario-Minnesota border.

St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says emergency personnel responded after receiving a S-O-S notification that was sent to Global Rescue.

A man had hurt his leg with an axe.

He was able to use a tourniquet and bandaging to stop the bleeding and send out the notification.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Rescue Squad coordinated rescue and medical efforts with the assistance of Zups Cabins on Lac La Croix, Anderson Outfitters, Orr Ambulance, Crane Lake Fire Department and the Virginia Fire Department.

The man was eventually rescued and taken to hospital in Cook, Minnesota, for treatment.

Authorities credit the man for being properly prepared and having the ability to administer immediate first aid for the successful outcome.
