2 arrested, drugs seized during Atikokan traffic stop

Two people have been arrested after a traffic stop led to a drug seizure in Atikokan.

OPP say officers stopped a vehicle to check document compliance on Tuesday afternoon.

“The officer found one of the vehicle passengers violating a court ordered prohibition,” police said in a news release.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a small amount of suspected cocaine and other trafficking related paraphernalia, which led to a second arrest.

A 40-year-old from Atikokan is charged with possessing ammunition contrary to a prohibition and failing to comply with probation. They were held in custody and have a bail hearing scheduled for Monday.

A 34-year-old, also from Atikokan, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possessing unmarked cigarettes. They were released from custody and have a court appearance on July 31.
