Crews prepare Fort Frances water tower for rehabilitation

Scaffolding now surrounds the water tower in Fort Frances.

The scaffolding was recently around the water tower in preparation for a major rehabilitation.

The town is spending almost $4.5 million for work crews to redo the tank’s interior and exterior coating.

Some structural repairs are also planned.

The coating was last done in 2008, but an inspection in 2022 found it beginning to deteriorate.

Crews are still working inside the tower, installing scaffolding before starting their work.

The job is being done by Landmark Municipal Services from Burlington.

The tank was drained last month and will remain out of service until the job is finished by the end of September.

The tower was constructed in 1984 to provide the town with the ability to store potable water.

It has the capacity of storing 1,250,000 gallons.

During low-flow periods, the water tower provides water to the entire town without the need for pumping.

It also handles excess water during high-flow periods.
