Fort Frances recognizes Community Living Month

May is Community Living Month.

It brings awareness and recognizes the work of agencies that support people with physical and intellectual disabilities and their families.

To honour the month, the town of Fort Frances held a flag-raising ceremony at the Civic Centre, where Mayor Andrew Hallikas also read a proclamation.

Hallikas says the local agency offers a wide array of services.

“The Community Living organization does an amazing job of supporting individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities throughout their lives to ensure that they live in a state of dignity and participate in all aspects of living in our community,” says Hallikas.

“We thank this wonderful organization for their contribution to the quality of life of the people that they serve.”

Community Living Fort Frances and District provides supported independent living, group living, supported employment, respite, clinical supports, a resource centre and workshops.

Chief Executive Officer Ted Scholton thanks staff and community members for their support.

“We’re going to be having service awards later this month for the staff that have been here for years,” says Scholton.

“We want to thank all the community members who play an important role in the community through employment and the supports that we give from Lac La Croix all the way to Rainy River.”
