CN plans for new lift bridge this year

It could be this June before a rail lift bridge on Rainy Lake is operational again.

CN has submitted its plans to replace the damaged Five Mile Bridge to Transport Canada for approval.

The bridge collapsed last August shortly after a train passed.

It shut down rail traffic for several days before CN crews were able to make repairs.

The application before Transport Canada identifies CN constructing new towers to connect the steel span using barges and cranes.

A tentative scheduled has the work finishing up in June.

It will start once federal approval is received.
