Food banks stuffed once again

The shelves at food banks in the Rainy River District have a little fully.

Thousands of pounds of food were donated during the Stuff A Cruiser campaign on Saturday.

Collection events were held in Rainy River, Emo and Fort Frances with service agencies such as the Ontario Provincial Police, Treaty 3 Police, Canada Border Services and Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Conservation Officers involved.

The Emo Food Bank reports having one of its best collections in over five years, receiving more than 1,900 pounds in food donations.

At the same time, the Bargain Shop ran a separate campaign that collected more than $7,000 in food, toys and cash for the Salvation Army and the United Native Friendship Centre’s Homelessness Outreach Program.

Members of the Couchiching Fire Department were on hand to assist with that event.
