Town seeks firm for Hallett/Owandem project

Two vessels significant to the history of Fort Frances could have their final resting places by next August.

The town is now seeking a firm to do the engineering and construction work for the relocation of the Hallett and Owandem.

In the bid request, the town wants the project completed by August 15th of next year.

The town received almost $487,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Funding earlier this year to place the tugboats along the waterfront.

The Hallett remains on blocks after being removed from its previous resting posts in Rainy River because of the flood in 2022.

The Owandem remains in storage since it was restored several years ago.

The closing date for bids is the end of October.

Council could decide on who the contract goes to by the end of the year.

Proposed plans for Hallett and Owandem. Fort Frances town council agenda hand-out.
