Impaired driver arrested after brief foot chase

A traffic stop turned into a foot chase for the Ontario Provincial Police.

OPP say a vehicle was pulled over on Highway 11 in Watten Township near George Armstrong Drive on Sunday evening in response to a call about a suspected drunk driver.

When the vehicle stopped, the officer approached but the motorist left his vehicle and fled on foot.

The officer managed to apprehend the man after a short chase.

Police would later find open liquor and cannabis in the vehicle.

The 41-year-old from Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation was charged with impaired driving and found to be driving while prohibited.

He was later released from custody and will make a court appearance in November.
