Muskies fall in final to NorWOSSA rival

The Fort Frances Muskies girls’ hockey team lost 5-2 in the final of the Husky Classic Girls Hockey Tournament in Winnipeg to the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints.

The two teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, with Kiera Fairington scoring a minute after the Saints opened the scoring.

The Saints blew the game open with a four-goal second period.

Marliee Bliss scored the Muskies’ final goal with just over 9 minutes less in the third.

Madison Bliss took the loss in net, facing 33 shots.

The Muskies advanced to the final Saturday afternoon, defeating the Oak Park Raiders 1-0 in the shootout.

Saylor Easton would get the deciding goal as the Muskies outscored the Raiders 2-1 in the shootout.

Madison Bliss earned the shutout, stopping 16 shots along the way.
