Council to discuss opioid crisis

A municipal response to the Opioid crisis is expected to be discussed at Fort Frances town council tonight.

It stems from a Northwestern Health Unit report that identifies opioid-related deaths in the region to be twice as high as the provincial average.

Hospitalization rates are one and a half times higher.

The Health Unit wrote to municipalities and agencies in February to consider measures they could take.

This includes having Naloxone readily available and providing staff training on how to administer the overdose-recovery drug.
