Local Sports For Tuesday February 21

A busy Monday in the SIJHL with three games.

The Dryden GM Ice Dogs had their modest two game winning streak snapped with a 6-5 loss to the Thunder Bay North Stars. The Ice Dogs had previously shutout the Sioux Lookout Bombers 5-0 and the Red Lake Miners 5-4 over the weekend.

Elsewhere the Fort Frances Lakers downed the Wisconsin Lumberjacks 9-5 after losing the the Thunder Bay North Stars Saturday night 2-1.

The only other game last night saw the Sioux Lookout Bombers upend the Red Lake Miners 7-3.

 

At the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville from Thunder Bay won both of her games on Monday 8-6, first getting by New Brunswick and then outlasting Meghan Walter’s wild card team from Manitoba in the night draw.

She leads pool B with a 4-1 record while defending champ Kerri Einarson tops the A pool with a perfect 5-0 record.

 

The Kenora U18 AAA Thistles wrapped up the regular season with a pair of losses.

The Thistles were shutout Sunday 3-0 by the Pembina Valley Hawks and 3-2 on Saturday by the Hawks.

The Thistles failed to make the playoffs with an 13-28-0-3 record and are off now until the March break when they meet the Thunder Bay Kings in the best-of-three Northwest Branch Playdowns.
