GM Ice Dogs Double Up Lakers

The Dryden GM Ice Dogs moved into sole possession of second place in the SIJHL with a 4-2 win over the Fort Frances Lakers in Fort Frances Friday night.

The win moved Dryden one point ahead of the Red Lake Miners, who doubled up the Sioux Lookout Bombers 6-3.

The Ice Dogs held leads of 2-0 and 4-1 after two periods while firing a total of 60 shots at Lakers netminder Brandon Stroble.

Max Roby, his twelve of the season on the power play and Landen Stromme, with his 17th, opened the Dryden’s scoring in the first period.

After the Lakers scored their first midway through the second, James Hooten scored on the powerplay to record the Ice Dogs’ two-goal lead.

Paul McKale rounded out Dryden’s scoring with his first of the season with just under two minutes to go in the period.

Zacc McDonald stopped 21 of 23 shots he faced in earning his sixth win this season.

Ryland Maier had a pair of assists and was named the game’s first star.

The two teams meet again tonight at the Dryden Memorial Arena, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
