NDP Calls Backlog Strategy ‘A Disaster for Hospitals

The opposition is voicing its concerns with the government’s plan to address the surgical backlog.

The NDP sees it as a move toward privatization.

Incoming NDP leader Marit Stiles says it won’t improve the current situation.

“It’s going to mean that more and more people are left behind because it is going to pull more and more resources out of our health care system, out of our public hospitals and leave more and more people waiting for more serious and significant care,” says Stiles.

Stiles believes the strategy will also put a further strain on staffing.

“These workers will come from the same pool, and whoever is left behind in our hospitals will be the folks that are going to be dealing with the most vulnerable and increasingly complex patients and population with fewer and fewer people to care for them.”

Stiles says her party will do whatever it takes to fight the move.

She is calling for the legislature to be recalled so MPPs can debate the strategy.
