Local Sports Report for Monday, November 7

The Fort Frances Lakers defeated the Red Lake Miners at the Memorial Sports Centre yesterday afternoon, 5-3.

The Lakers shot out to a four-goal lead by the early part of the third period on goals from Dominque Cyr, Kevin Bond, Ethan Elgie and Dylan Wedword.

The Miners scored twice by the middle of the period to cut the Lakers’ lead in half before Clark Scaddan scored his team-leading sixth of the season to give the home side a three-goal lead.

Red Lake scored a later shorthand goal to round out the scoring.

Tanner Ryan faced 41 shots to pick up his first win of the season.

It was an all-local final at the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association’s Under-13 A tournament.

The Times Tigers doubled up the Boston Pizza Royals 4-2 in the championship game.

Emo White edged the Current River Comets 2-1 in the Consolation final.

 

There were no medals for the Fort Frances Muskies cross-country team at the all-Ontario high school cross-country championships.

Nine members competed, including Trent Wilson, who was 59th in the senior boys’ race.

Payton Dolyny – 164th – 23:29.34

SENIOR BOYS – 247 runners
Trent Wilson – 59th – 21:46.35

SENIOR GIRLS
Chloe Dolyny – 154th – 29:52.25
Leah Seguin – 182nd – 31:11.40

Abbie Hutchinson from Falls High School was 49th in the varsity girls’ event at the Minnesota State High School cross-country championships.

She was the lone Bronco runner taking part.
