Shareholders Accept Merger Deal

A merger deal between Resolute Forest Products and Paper Excellence through its subsidiary Domtar has shareholder blessing.

More than 80 per cent of eligible Resolute shareholders gave nearly 100 per cent support at a special vote held on Monday.

The agreement paves the way for it to be finalized.

Resolute says that could happen by the middle of next year.

There are other regulatory approvals needed and the satisfaction or waiver of the other conditions identified.

Under the deal, Resolute will continue to operate its facilities under its name.

It is selling off its pulp and paper mill in Thunder Bay but keeping the sawmills in Atikokan and Ignace operational.
